JOB DESCRIPTION:

We build complex, beautiful web applications in a dynamic agile environment. Working with our Creative Director, the Front-End Developer will use our custom Rails 3 driven CMS to transform given designs into cross-browser compatible websites.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SENIOR FRONT END DEVELOPER:

• Work independently and with a team to create HTML/CSS markup and templates with a strong focus on clarity, maintainability, cross-browser compatibility and performance.
• Set up and configure sites using our custom, Rails 3 driven CMS.  This is not a back-end position, but some minor CMS related coding will be required.  For example, rearranging HTML templates written in HAML/Ruby to fit different layouts.
• Deploy sites to our web stack.  We run a cloud infrastructure of nginx and Unicorn.  It’s managed by Chef which makes deployments relatively painless (we’ll show you how).  But those who fear the command-line or a bit of troubleshooting need not apply.
• Be proficient in Photoshop & Illustrator to render the graphical assets required for our websites.
• Participate in requirements gathering and functional specification activities, providing feedback on implementation feasibility as well as navigable prototypes/mockups.
• Develop and lead the implementation of front-end web coding and design standards, writing clear, clean, and concise code.
• Work closely with designers, artists, engineers and testers to contribute to the overall user experience.  Stay up to date on latest trends and emerging technologies within the UI community.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE FRONT END DEVELOPER:

• Expertise in HTML & CSS; proficient with (or willing to learn) HAML & SASS
• Expertise in theming/styling dynamic template-driven CMS systems (Rails?  A big plus)
• Expertise in creating web assets from provided PSD files
• Programming experience (Ruby in particular) is a big plus.  Though not the focus of this position, *some minor Ruby coding will be required*.
• Experience using command-line tools; web server experience a plus (nginx)
• Proficient with JavaScript (We use jQuery extensively)
• Understanding of and experience with Ajax is a big plus.
• Experience with catering content for mobile device browsers is a plus.
• Understanding of web accessibility requirements is a plus.
• Experience with source control management systems is a plus (We use Git).
