Liquidnet: Interaction Designer

Liquidnet seeks strong candidates for a position as an Interaction Designer, a key role in designing software products and services at Liquidnet.  This person will work with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, testers, business analysts, and others to create products and services for the institutional investment community and other financial market participants.  Responsibilities will include requirements gathering and validation with customers, interaction design, visual design, information architecture, and support for user interface (UI) developers. 

The position requires a combination of interaction design skills, strong visual design skills, and knowledge of UI technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work with users, stakeholders, and team leads to understand product goals.
  • Design interaction frameworks from a holistic perspective.
  • Create beautiful, functional, creative, and modern visual designs that complement existing branding.  
  • Communicate the design to software developers and work with them to implement the UI.  

Main Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years experience designing software interfaces
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills
  • Firm grasp of visual design principles and practices
  • Extremely proficient with Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong understanding of technology and the product development lifecycle
  • Experience writing HTML+CSS, and/or Javascript is a huge plus  
  • Formal training in Interaction Design, HCI, or related disciplines is a plus
  • Experience in the financial services industry is a plus

…is comfortable creating a variety of artifacts, including product descriptions, sketches, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups.

…is extremely proficient at creating pixel-perfect mockups in Illustrator and Photoshop.   

… knows the fundamentals of good typography, such as which typefaces are better for which uses.  

…can communicate design to front-end developers and explain the thinking behind the design.  

…is familiar with how different UI technologies (HTML, WPF, etc.) render interfaces and how to account for this in your design.  

…understands how websites are affected by different form factors, such as smart phones and tablets.

…is able to follow the visual style of existing products, as well as add improvements to the visual style that fit with the company’s brand image.

…knows how to communicate well with people in a variety of roles, including sales, technology, and product support.
