Director of Technology

We're seeking a leader, key architect and technical project manager to drive all of the organization’s software and web development efforts. As Director of Technology, you’ll play a key role in designing and managing development of internal tools, frameworks, as well as working on the company’s top projects. You will report to the Chief Executive Officer and be an integral part of the senior management team.

This opportunity is for those located in (or willing to re-locate to) the Orlando area only. 

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small team of software developers. This includes scheduling, staffing, prioritization and all other management-related responsibilities.
• As a member of the Executive Team, help lead the organization, propagate our cultural values and build our capacity for growth.

You have a remarkable track record. You’re an experienced web developer (Java/ColdFusion/PHP and know MVC frameworks well) and you’ve managed the development, security, update and maintenance of high-volume web sites. 

You have the education or experience to back you up. You have a Bachelor's in CS or equivalent experience and have 3-5 years of experience managing development teams which delivered significant web projects on time and within budget. 

You're a strategic leader. You have a broad knowledge of the current state-of-the-art web-based systems and architectures, and you will use this knowledge to set the direction for our development initiatives.

Icing on the Cake

You have experience with system administration. Managing Linux (Redhat & CentOS) servers, Windows servers, GIT, Solr, Nutch, Apache, Tomcat, and MySQL.

Key Results Area #1: Lead Software Architect and Engineer

• Technical architecture and oversight of all major projects
• Lead developer on any areas of projects involving new or exploratory technology
• Lead developer on large SaaS web products, coding where necessary, training and delegating where possible. Remain somewhat involved on both.

Key Results Area #2: Development Director

• Architect and maintain internal tools and frameworks (PIM, CMS, Alyx, Documentation, Solr, Nutch)
• Determine development platforms & procedures (Git, Apache, MySQL, Linux, ColdFusion, etc.)
• Determine development procedures (Code Reviews, Unit Testing, QA, Alpha, Beta)
• Code and architecture reviews for medium to large size projects
• Developer mentoring in both group settings and one-on-one settings

Key Results Area #3: Technical Director

• Manage internal network and internal security procedures (VPN)
• Manage and oversee development and production servers (Marshall, Seattle, Kennedy)
• Manage and oversee backups of both development and production servers (mail, dns, websites, databases, third party integrations)
• Mentor and train at least one other developer in this area

Key Results Area #4: Strategic Planning

• Participate in discussions around solidifying and improving our development process
• Participate in discussions around managing developers
• Participate in discussions around managing projects and requirements
• Ensure the vision and mission of the company is being applied to all technical service areas
