Mojo Tech: Junior Front-End Designer

(Providence, RI)

We are growing our Creative team!

We’re looking for a versatile Front-End Designer with a “design-for-brand” sensitivity, an eye for color, type and layout, as well as the front-end development chops to tread in a fast-growing, faster-moving, open and collaborative work environment. The desired candidate will work collaboratively with Art Directors and Project Managers to solve design problems. The candidate will execute both visual and strategic design solutions, contributing knowledge in user interface (UI), visual design and front-end development. He or she will also work with Creative staff in creating brand identity systems, ancillary product communications and brand assets, and will also conduct market and design research.

**Candidates should possess most - if not all - of the necessary experience and skills as outlined below. Well-aligned individuals (See “Character”) possessing the requisite front-end experience, evidence of visual design acumen and the willingness and aptitude to grow their visual design counterpart will also be considered.  

/Candidate Search Criteria:

Experience/

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Web Design or New Media - or equivalent professional experience. 
  • A minimum of 1-2+ years experience in Front-end Design. (in addition to College/University)
  • Overlapping experience in Visual Design or Design Research.
  • Shows experience in working through complex design problems.
  • Solid Portfolio

Bonus Experience/

  • Experienced in designing for Mobile Devices. 

Character/

  • Smart and engaged.
  • A passion for design. Both Hypebeasts and TechCrunchers welcome. Hybrid candidate? Whoa.
  • Up on recent movements in design and usability.
  • Curiosity to learn about new web technologies and approaches.
  • Resourceful and self-initiating; don’t be the first lazy person on the team, please.
  • Likes fast-paced environments. Offices are on water; shells in the parking lot, but no anchors in the sand, please. 
  • Can work independently and in a collaborative team. No cubicles here. No interior walls either.  
  • Detailed and organized. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently.
  • Big ideas over big egos. Hot-dogging welcome, but no “I” before “team”. I mean that. 

Skills/

  • Proficient in front-end web technologies: JavaScript, CSS, Ajax, and jQuery.
  • Fluent in design software such as Photoshop and Illustrator - InDesign a plus. *You will learn InDesign here if you don’t already know it. 
  • Code flat designs and prototyping using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Eye for type and color.
  • Extreme attention to detail with a pixel perfect cross-browser and cross platform mentality.
  • Ability to implement and enforce latest web development standards.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work quickly, iterating toward the best solutions.
  • Strong cross-functional communications skills; verbal, written and visual.
  • Express ideas and communicate visuals. 
  • Must be able to clearly communicate ideas to both Creatives and Developers.
  • Contribute in brainstorming, planning, and strategy sessions
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.

Bonus Skills/

  • Ability to create Information Architecture (IA), charts, wireframes and interaction flows. *You will learn this if you don’t bring it with you.
